The Rock Star of Archaeology

Each day in Egypt, one member of our group would receive a unique response from the public: a gasp of recognition, heads put together to confirm that the sighting was accurate, and then the pounce. “You’re that guy from TV,” they would gasp. “May we take a picture with you?” Egyptians, Italians, Americans, Japanese, British—everyone recognized his iconic denim shirt and worn-in fedora.

Notes from Cairo
